“¿Who are these Hasbaristas?”

The Blog

“Hasbara” means propaganda. A “Hasbarista” is a purveyor of propaganda.

On campus and in our communities, to become a Hasbarista is to scale Mount Sinai and receive the Lord’s Talking Points. “Thou shalt not besmirch Bibi.” “Thou shall conflate Hamas and Fatah.”  Etcetera.

Here, we adopt the moniker Hasbarista in loving snark. We aim to provide a counter to the talking points from both the left and the right, to provide thoughtful essays and analysis that will provoke rather than stifle discussion.

The Writers

Diogenes slaves at UNC Chapel Hill. When not toiling in academic gulag, he spends his free time dabbling in chess and anarchist theory, trolling music blogs and trying in vain to fix his perpetually broken Yamaha Virago 535.

Golda Meir is interested in politics, feminism, fiction, and Korean BBQ. If she ever gets around to learning how to use Photoshop, she’ll feel greatly accomplished and surprised.

Fishbrains is an International Relations and Political Science student currently living in Israel. In addition to her obsession with the nitty-gritty of politics, she spins elaborate theories about women’s power dynamics and is a private pilot.

Demontheses studies at University of Maryland, College Park. He is deeply passionate about Kurt Vonnegut’s drawings of gravestones, plexiglass lightsabers and the formation of social norms on Internet message boards, among other things. He has embarked on a quest to become a professional lecture tourist, and eagerly awaits instructions on how to achieve this life goal.
